UAW – Cell phone Reimbursement Grievance

UAW FLSA Exempt Members.

Changes in Cell Phone Reimbursement

Several members have informed us that SEIU 1000 has recently changed the way it is reimbursing FLSA exempt employees who use their cell phone for work purposes. While the messages have been mixed, SEIU has recently been requesting members submitting expense claims to itemize their work-related calls, then is reimbursing them proportionately for the entire bill costs.

Grievance

We are filing a grievance today that SEIU is violating Article 16, Section 1(S), .

March 16 Letter

Dear Sisters and Brothers;

The attached letter is being distributed in Sacramento today and
tomorrow to delegates and legislative guests at the statewide Legislative Conference,
“Restoring Economic Justice 2009″, sponsored by the California Labor Federation
and the State Building and Construction Trades Council.

We are requesting that unions and friends of labor remind CSEA and its affiliates,
SEIU Local 1000, CSUEU, ACSS and the Retirees, that they must not undermine support
for labor principles by short-sighted and punitive actions as employers.

Please feel free to pass this letter on to your local labor council and to other important contacts.

In solidarity
Lois Kugelmass
President, UAW Local 2350

Bargaining Update

Based on bargaining today and what we’ve seen before, the employer continues to demonstrate little interest in reaching agreement by the time the contract extension expires next Monday, March 9th.

We received a proposal on retirement and retiree health care but not a full economic package. The proposal would eliminate retiree health care for both employees and dependents. Instead, the proposal would substitute a flat payment of $200 per month after 15 years of service and $400 per month after 20 years of service. They insist that we have no choice but to enter the SEIU retirement system. With the amount of detail that needs to be negotiated for any pension change, we see no way we can reach an agreement by March 9th. We are sending the proposal to the UAW attorneys and actuaries in Detroit and Chicago for their analysis and advice.
